Somerset House Nail Pendant

Details

In 2024 a fire ripped through a section of the roof area of the West Wing of Somerset House causing damage to the historic fabric of the building. This pendant is cast from a selection of nails salvaged directly from the burnt wooden beams, original to the c. 1780's West Wing construction. Each nail is individually twisted, oxidised and finished by hand to enhance the materiality and traces of time inherent in the object.

Provided with an oxidised 50cm sterling silver belcher chain which has a lobster style clasp.
