GOV001 - Simon Parris’ edition is part auto-compositional, a 20 minute 'musical' taking spirit and discreet majority form through found field recordings of insects and their environments. a processed reconciliation of life, death and regeneration in recognition of the great recyclers.

prompted by a visit to mushizuka 虫塚 (insect mound), kan’ei-ji temple, tokyo in may 2026. a memorial to dead insects erected by aristocrat sessai matsuyama in 1821. its purpose was to console the spirits of the flies, crickets, and grasshoppers that had been killed in the production of a scientific text - an anatomical study of insects that matsuyama himself had commissioned.
all sounds sourced, distilled and processed from earth, nature or machine by s.parris the first week of august 2026.
